What do you get when you put together a clever mix of
funk, classical, old school style big beats, classic rock, and all incarnations
of jazz? Nothing less than the groundbreaking melodic breath of fresh
air sound Anthos self produces and writes. Born, raised, and residing
in Los Angeles, Anthos has been an avid Hip Hop supporter, from day
one, long before it was accepted by the mainstream. “A major part
of my coming off tight while I was breaking was having a tight tape
bumping in the radio. Anything from Run DMC, to Malcolm Mc Laren,
The World Class Wreckin Cru, UTFO, and LL Cool J… to name just
a few”. These days Anthos has turned his love of music and a disappointment
in the direction of Hip Hop into his greatest passion, producing.
His live performances, although unique, bring some sort of sense of
familiarity, where there’s at least a little something for everyone.
DJ Wish Boogie, “a young Asian American with the soul of an old
African American man” carefully seasons the tracks to near perfection
with his well trained Turntable skills. Guitarist Daryl “De Barge”
Williams, Producer, and sometime MC, shares his eclectic vision while
providing top notch original instrumental tracks. And the back bone
of the show, Venice based Saxophonist Jeff “The Magnificent”
Magnus is the natural sweetener that brings the vibe of the live show
to its peak every time. If you ever find yourself listening to Jason
Bentley or Garth Trinidad on KCRW, the show is a must see. Kind of like
a Tums for the heartburn. |
